Stitching in Norway & Tilda’s World 2019

By Karin Hellaby

I’m back in Norway to start our Tilda Tour. Just so lucky to have the same gorgeous weather we had last year. This hotel has an idyllic setting!

Our lunchtime stop! Time to wander over the rocks looking at the old lighthouse where hot coals were placed in a basket and admire the lovely fishing harbour. This is Verden’s Ende (Worlds End). The restaurant on top of the hill has wonderful food and spectacular views.

Fabulous afternoon at the Tilda showroom, a beautiful renovated house on Tjome in the Oslo fjord. Tone Finnanger was once again there to meet us and teach us and share her knowledge. To have the Tilda designer show us latest and future collections of her beautiful fabrics was just wonderful. Thank you Tone, Torje and Ann Berit! Our group loved their visit!!!

Today is a celebration of Independence in Norway, 17th May. It is such a pleasure to be in Oslo watching the parades and seeing the wonderful national costumes worn by proud Norwegians.

We left Tjøme to drive into Oslo for a two night stay. Our first stop was a shopping expedition to Katherine’s Quilters Stue. We were there for nearly two hours as it is a lovely quilt shop with enticing bundles of fabric and lovely displays. Katherine and her staff made us very welcome, providing ☕️ and ?.

Then onto the Folk museum where we had a fascinating talk from the curator of the traditional costumes and knitting. I could have listened to her for hours.

Our Stitchtopia group are staying at the Fleischers hotel in Voss, tonight. Built in 1864 it has been visited by European royalty as well as princes from the Middle East and Thailand. It is also Norway’s oldest ski hotel.

Our Stitchtopia group are concentrating sew hard on learning Hardanger embroidery in the world famous Hardanger museum. Thank you Agnetha for your patience when teaching them.

Some scenic views of the beautiful Hardanger fjord in Norway, on a gorgeous sunny day with snow capped mountains in the distance.

Great holiday . We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Special mention for the Tilda workshop, nice surprise that Tone herself was there. Katherines Quilt shop visit was also great. In fact a great holiday all round made better by Karin and Hilary.
